El Molino Central opens in The Springs

Tamale lovers from Sonoma Valley and beyond are enjoying the opening of El Molino Central on Highway 12 in Boyes Hot Springs.   Karen Taylor Waikiki, whose Primavera Tamales gained a following at the San Francisco Ferry Building Market, named her new eatery after the "molino" that every town in Mexico used to have, where their dried corn was ground into masa.  Stop by to watch the hand-grinding process around 11 a.m. each morning, when the tortillas are made.  El Molino offers take-out as well as several eat-in tables on the back patio.

El Molino Central was among the first businesses in the Springs to benefit from the recently implemented Facade Improvement and Commercial Rehabilitation loan program provided through the Springs Redevelopment Agency.  For more information on this program, visit the financial assistance page.

Two new businesses slated to open in Sonoma Valley will expand the artisan beer experience available in wine country.  Soon to open in Fiesta Plaza in the Springs is the Olde Sonoma Public House, with local owners Coley and Jo Thinnes and Ron Dardis, offering more than 20 beers on tap in a warm and inviting environment.  Local resident Dean Biersch will be opening Sonoma Hopmonk Tavern on Broadway later this summer (more details are available in a recent article in the Sonoma Index-Tribune).  These new additions join the bavarian-style offerings at Sonoma Springs Brewing Co. (750 W. Napa St.), the "American Beer Garden" at Mondo, and the German beers that accompany "European Soul Food" at Lokal, all of which have opened their doors within the past couple of years.
